Rutgers Mobile Phone Usage Agreement

Rutgers is requesting your mobile phone number to enhance the University’s ability to communicate important information to you in the event of an emergency and to reset a forgotten NetID password, and to contact you for needs of conducting university business. It is Rutgers’ policy not to sell, provide, or otherwise disclose your mobile phone information to third parties, except when necessary to respond to an emergency.

The 3rd party cloud vendor, RAVE, that provides the ENS service for Rutgers, also does not provide personally identiļ¬able information in any way to telemarketers or other solicitors. This policy is clearly stated in both Rave’s contract with the customer as well as Rave’s privacy policy. You can view a copy of their user-facing privacy policy here: https://getrave.com/help/Privacy.do.

By subscribing to the Emergency Notification System (ENS), you are agreeing to receive recurring SMS notifications (text messages) at variable intervals including, but not limited to, biannual testing. Message and data rates may apply.

Messages to your mobile phone are meant to be used in conjunction with other campus emergency alert tools and systems, and not as the sole method of information distribution.

Messages will be limited in detailed information due to the character limitations required in sending text messages via mobile phones. Reception of text messages is not guaranteed, and will depend on your service provider’s network. Messages may be delayed by your service provider until they can be delivered to your phone reliably. In some cases, this could result in a significant delay after the message was initially distributed.
